Two Koi

Two Koi

This is a wet on wet practice painting from a book by Lian Quan Zhen. I admire his technique.

I have problems yet with the freedom of this style and yet including the acuracy of the subject.

Did you know that Koi are really Carp, but the Japanese bred them over the centuries to look beautiful. Also, the Japanese have many special names for Koi depening on their color patterns. For example, you can see this chart here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/db/Mango_koi.jpg
Or simply look up the word "Koi" on the online encyclopedia (www.wikipedia.org). There you can find tons of information about Koi.

Also, you might like to find lots of information about any subject you are interested in.

And, by they way, the Koi you painted are beautiful! Maybe you can try to paint some cats. I know one Japanese book about a cat by the author Natsume Soseki. It is entitled, "I Am a Cat (吾輩は猫である, Wagahai wa neko de aru)". I am sure you would like this novel. You can look it up on Wikipedia.

Smile :)

Hi Jess. I hope he's reading these comments. This blog is really growing, isn't it?

I really love watercolor and Chinese/Japanese brush paintings.
