A Pelican and a Gladioli
I have a friend who is always calling people he thinks are in his way or acting like morons "pelican" . So I told him I would have to paint him a picture of a pelican. Don't know why I just did. I found a Photo on the web and painted it .
The painting of the "Gladioli" is from a book on Sumi painting and I liked the subject . It is so simple and pretty. My painting lacks life I think.

Don't worry. Chinese brush painting usually takes a lifetime to master even just one single brush stroke. I think you are improving very fast. Your pelican is amazing!
I think, I maybe am not correct, but in the Chinese brush painting, the movement of your hand becomes visible in the final stroke. It can't be hidden. So, that is why to become a good painter, the artist should first calm his inner self. Then with the practice of technique, the special inner spirit quality will appear in the brush stroke. That is why even a single brush stroke can be a masterpiece. And I am sure you have figured this out from your own practice so far.
It is said that a famous Chinese painter would grind his ink stone in 100 circular movements before begining. This was not just to make dark ink, but to calm his mind and heart first.
You have a good eye for this type of painting and you are really improving. I am no expert and you are already so much better than I ever could be, so please accept my encouragements.
Wow, very nice.
(May I ask what is the pink-red bar thing in the top right hand corner?)
If it is what I think it is, then we're going to have to get you a Chinese name stamp soon.
