A Painting from High School

This is a painting I did in a high school art class in 1971 or 72. All of the things come from a still life the teacher set up.

I remember the still life had many many items on a table in the classroom. We were told to draw the still life as it was as realisticly as possible but we only would have that one time to do so. As the still life was gone the next day.

We then were told to take our drawing and make another picture from the things we had been able to draw from the previous day. Only this time the things could be rearanged to our liking.
The next day we were told to put away that drawing and from our memory only paint or draw another . Only this time we were to do anything we liked but could only use the items we had drawn in the previous drawing. this would then be our final painting.

The yin yang was not in the original still life but at the time I was into I-Ching and took the artistic liberty of including it in my final painting.

Crtomir you asked what the pink thing was in many fo the picturs I post . Well it is a simple clip I use to hold the painting on th easle. You see I paint on a flat table an then clip them to a stand to look at them from a distance.

As to my needing a stamp I do want one. I am planning on having one made with the characters for Valley and Mountain carved. I choose those characters because Dale is a valley and Goorskey is a mountain.

Bogomila I thank you for the kind words. I however do not use stick ink just yet. I use bottle sumi ink from the art store. Untill I can afford the ink stick and stone.

The need for calming myself for painting is true. My pleasure in the is in the whole process and I do much better if I ponder the subject for a time befor I paint. I do wish I had a teacher.
